DEATH CONVERSATION GAME X RADICAL CARE

Art Rise invited interdisciplinary artist Aaniya Asrani and I to collaborate through our respective projects Radical Care and the Death Conversation Game. Here we co-created a platform for collective deep diving into exploring the relationship(s) between death and care through interactive public art making and somatic conversation.

This show invited viewer/participants to come together and engage in meaningful discussions about death and care while using clay and paper. Three questions relating to death and care were offered by Asrani and I as an optional starting point. Over the shows four interspersed workshops and duration of open gallery hours, as stories and experiences were shared, the creations in clay and paper evolved into the final collaborative art installation that reflected the gathered collective’s relationship(s) to death and care.

Our project aimed to bring together individuals from all walks of life to unpack the universal truth that we all encounter death, in more than one form. Aiming to foster these vulnerable conversations in order to help normalize this often-taboo topic, our intention was to make visible some of the stories, legacies and ideas relating to death/care that are frequently kept private, inviting them into public discursive view through co-creating this supportive space for these important conversations and artistic expressions to emerge and be shared.
